Name Change

People change their name for many different reasons, including marriage, divorce, convenience, honoring an ancestral name or simply personal preference.

So long as the name change is not being used for fraudulent or misleading purposes, such as to avoid creditors, Courts will typically grant them.

A Court is less likely to permit the choice of a name that is bizarre, unduly lengthy, ridiculous, or offensive to common decency and good taste. Use caution and common sense. The Court will ask you to explain why you want the name change.
